When the new planned international airport comes up at Navi Mumbai in a few years, access to the international airport will down further to two hours. It is also hoped that the present airport at Pune will be upgraded by that time or a new international airport will be constructed to make Pune an independent business centre in its own right.
Pune is today one of India’s fastest growing cities and in many ways mirrors Bangalore’s growth as a twin. Pune has good weather and a scenic ambience around it. It has bills and plains, greenery and adventure trails all around and this enables the quality of life in Pune to be one of the best that India offers. The main city still has its old and newer constituents and traffic management and pollution are serious considerations but the outer areas though not planned very well offer better ambience and living styles.

|Archeological evidence indicates that the Rashtrkootas ruled Punya Vishaya (as Pune was known then) about 758-768 A.D. Later, the Yadav’s ruled the region and Pune was called as Punaka Desh / Punaka Wadi t\during that time. The transition from Punya Vishaya to Pune took about 1000 years.Pune is ensconced in the western ghats of the Sahyadri mountain range, and has a healthy climate throughout the year. Pune occupies about 43.8 sq. miles of land and is situated at the confluence of the rivers Mula and Mutha.
Pune is home to a number of prestigious scientific institutes in astrophysics, advanced computation, bio informatics, virology, etc. and academic institutes of higher learning like the University of Pune, and Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute.
